The newly opened TxDOT campus brings over 300 employees together at a central workplace hub with extensive landscape providing campus visitors a myriad of outdoor spaces for working, socializing and gathering in a functional and beautiful setting. Designing the nearly 50-acre site that included natural grade change and densely wooded areas resulted in a landscape experience that is characterized by the blending of natural features with thoughtfully constructed ones. Custom concrete designs and decorative pavers designate spaces for vehicular and pedestrian use, while rain gardens, planted areas highlighting native Texas plants and tree preservation incorporated throughout speak to a commitment to environmental sensitivity. A network of scenic trails connects site buildings, and a large-scale, multi-tier pavilion with a green roof provides a gracious and shaded outdoor gathering space. Coleman & Associates’ scope of work included all phases from schematic design and design development to construction documentation and observation, irrigation design, trail design and furnishings selection.
