Coleman & Associates provided overall site design including custom hardscape, landscape, and irrigation for the University of North Texas’ (UNT) urban medical center campus. Extreme grade change on the north side of the site meant working closely with the project architect and civil engineer to gracefully incorporate ramps, learning stairs, and other pedestrian circulation. The landscape design included multiple large outdoor gathering spaces, with plazas and terraces on three sides of the building and an artificial turf lawn defined by medicinal planters over structure. Plant selection in the medicinal planters represent the body’s five key biological systems. Plants range from those with anti-oxidant properties to those used in the treatment of depression and other ailments.
