Mary Kyle Hartson City Square Park
Location: Kyle, TX
Client: City of Kyle
Size: 2 Acres
The Mary Kyle Hartson Park design marries the classic city square aesthetic with the usability of modern amenities. A pivotal project goal was to create landscaped spaces that serve a variety of functions (play/recreation, outdoor dining, educational spaces, and events and celebrations) while feeling connected, unified, and functional for park visitors. Special care was taken to preserve the historic character of the space, which has served the Texas community since the late 19th Century. Widening the park’s historic sidewalks – one of the original park’s most significant features – gave the walkway more visual impact as well as making it ADA accessible. A 20’ wide central promenade increases connectivity throughout the space and is generous enough to accommodate events such as the local farmers’ market and book fair. Coleman & Associates added a playscape that integrates nature, learning, and fun and has become a favorite park feature; heritage trees were preserved throughout the site. Project scope also included custom hardscape, landscape and irrigation, signage, and furniture specification.
